Call for Small Grants: Co-operation Development between UK and Azerbaijan HEIs​

Dear All,
British Council Azerbaijan is pleased to announce a call for Small Grants applications for a partnership development initiative between UK and Azerbaijan Higher Education Institutions (HIE).
The aim of the small grants implemented within Global Partnerships initiative of British Council is to support partnership development between UK and Azerbaijan HEIs through exchange of knowledge and expertise in teaching and research areas. The project will support development of long-lasting links between UK and Azerbaijan HEIs.
Deadline for applications: 18 February 2015
Who can participate:
The applicant must be based either in the UK or in Azerbaijan, and she/he must have a research or academic post (permanent or fixed-term) at a recognized publicly funded research establishment, or public or private HEI in the UK or in Azerbaijan. Application should focus on partnership development within higher education between the UK and Azerbaijan. Application should contain a letter of support from a partner institution (based either in the UK or Azerbaijan).
Funding:
The maximum grant to be awarded per application is 3000 GBP (3660 AZN). The total suggested cost of a project can exceed the grant amount. Universities will need to cover the difference themselves.
Selection process:
Applications will be assessed by the British Council Azerbaijan staff after the deadline for submission of applications. Top two successful applicants will be notified in writing about the results by 27 February 2015.

Ərizələrin son qəbulu tarixindən sonra ərizələr British Council Azərbaycan ofisinin nümayəndələri tərəfindən qiymətləndirilərək seçiləcəkdir. İki ən yüksək nəticə əldə edən ərizəçilər 27 fevral 2015-ci il tarixinədək nəticələr barədə məlumatlandırılacaqdır.
Hər bir ərizəyə görə nəzərdə tutulmuş qrant məbləği 3000 ingilis funt sterlingidir (3660 AZN). Ərizədə təqdim olunan layihənin məbləği qrant məbləğindən artıq ola bilər. Bu halda bir ərizə üçün nəzərdə tutulmuş ümumi qrant məbləğindən artıq olan hissə müraciət edən ali təhsil məssisəsi tərəfindən qarşılanmalıdır.

The United States Department of State and the US Embassy are pleased to announce the Fulbright Faculty Development Program. This program is a non-degree, professional development program that providespromising junior university faculty with the opportunity to:

  • develop new courses and implement curriculum reform at their home institutions;
  • cultivate teaching skills and techniques based on personal observation of U.S. educational methods;
  • expand the information base in their fields of study;
  • become a vehicle for on-going contact and exchange between their home and host institutions.

To qualify for the Fulbright Faculty Development Program, an applicant must:

  • hold a university degree;
  • be currently teaching at an institution of higher education;
  • have at least two years of teaching experience at an institution of higher education by the time of application;
  • demonstrate proficiency in oral and written English (selected finalists will be required to take TOEFL test.)

The 2015-2016 Fulbright Faculty Development Program offers one or two academic semester (fall semester of 2015 and spring semester of 2016) non-degree program at a U.S. institution.  Program activities include observing courses, developing curricula, gathering resource materials, attending conferences, collaborating with U.S. colleagues and giving presentations.  The Fulbright Faculty Development Program offers scholarships in any academic field.

The Fulbright Faculty Development Program provides round-trip international and domestic transportation, medical insurance, monthly stipends, and a professional development fund.  Since the Fulbright Faculty Development Program is a non-degree program, Fellows are not required or permitted to receive transcripts, grades or credit.​

Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program

About the program:

FulbrightThe Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program is a non-degree, post-doctoral award program for junior and senior researchers, university lecturers and experts from academic institutions who wish to conduct post-doctoral research, lecture, or pursue combined lecturing and research in the United States. It provides grants to approximately 850 foreign scholars from over 100 countries to conduct post-doctoral research at U.S. institutions from an academic semester (4 months) to a full academic year (9 months).

The selection of candidates for the Fulbright Visiting Scholars Program is carried out by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy based on an open competition.

Who can apply?

Researchers, university lecturers and experts from academic institutions, government and non-government structures who wish to conduct post-doctoral research, lecture, or pursue combined lecturing and research in the United States are eligible to participate in this program.

The interested candidates also must:

— be citizens of Azerbaijan
— hold a Ph.D. in the field of research/lecturing
— be proficient in oral and written English
— receive a satisfactory medical clearance​

This is a one-year non-degree program that brings accomplished professionals from designated countries around the world to the United States at a midpoint in their careers for a year of graduate-level academic course work and professional development activities. The Humphrey Program was initiated in 1978 to honor the memory and accomplishments of the late Senator and Vice President, Hubert H. Humphrey.

Fellowships are granted competitively to both public and private sector candidates with strong leadership potential and a commitment to public service in the fields of:

To be eligible for a Humphrey Fellowship, applicants must have:

  • Azerbaijani citizenship
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least five years of full-time progressive professional experience
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and a record of public service
  • English language ability (TOEFL score of 525 of paper-based or 71 internet-based or IELTS of 6.0-7.0 range)

Long Term English component
In addition to the pre-academic language training traditionally available, the Humphrey Program is offering a Long-Term English (LTE) language training opportunity to facilitate the participation of candidates who may be excellent candidates but are lacking the necessary language skills. LTE participants will be brought to the U.S. for an intensive 20-25 week pre-academic program to improve their language skills before transitioning to their academic-year Humphrey campuses. Candidates for LTE typically have TOEFL scores in the 440-500 range (paper-based test) or 42-61 (internet based test).

Terms and Conditions
The Humphrey Fellowship provides international travel, tuition and university fees, accident/sickness coverage, monthly maintenance allowance and funding for books and professional activities. The Humphrey Program does not provide financial support for accompanying dependents.

Training Course on Introduction to Qualitative Research Methods

Caucasus Research Resource Center – Azerbaijan is pleased to announce an open call for a workshop on Introduction to Qualitative Research Methods.

Course Description: In this introductory course to qualitative research methods students will learn the basic components of case study research, including: how formulate a research question, different approaches to structuring interviews, and methods of analyzing qualitative data intended for academic publication. The course will provide an in-class opportunity for students to practice semi-structured interviews and coding (a technique of qualitative analysis). By the end of the course, students should have acquired basic knowledge of qualitative research methods and be able to begin applying this knowledge towards their own research.

Instructors:       Ryan McCarrel is pursuing an M.A. in Geopolitics & the Global Economy with a regional emphasis in the South Caucasus at University College Dublin. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Oregon. Prior to joining CRRC-Azerbaijan, he started working as an editor for “Eurasian Ideas”, a graduate journal based out of the University of Glasgow in Scotland. He also taught physical and human geography tutorials to first year students at UCD.
